Husky Masters Status Update

Since the last COVID update in early September, the rules governing Husky Masters Swim Team as a USMS workout group have improved to allow up to two swimmers per lane. Unfortunately, by the time those rules were updated in Oct, there was no longer availability to rent pool space. We are not expecting pool availability and operational constraints to improve until at least Fall 2021. The HMST board does desire to restore practices when it becomes possible. Until then, we hope everyone stays safe.

Husky Masters COVID Status

We hope everyone is doing well and making the best of this situation we are all in. The Husky Masters Swim Team board has been exploring ways to provide safe and healthy ways of restoring coached swim practices this fall. Since COVID-19 started, USMS has issued a new Liability waiver and asserted that workout groups must follow all state and local rules and regulations. Unfortunately between the state regulations, the requirements of our insurance, and resulting fiscal constraints, we are unable to develop a plan that would allow practices to resume until conditions change.

Should any of the situation, requirements, or other factors that impact our ability to resume the Husky Masters Swim Team change, the board will aggressively explore the options. The recent survey provided considerable guidance on the factors needed to resume operation.

In the meantime, we are attempting to identify other swimming opportunities that might be available in the area outside of the Husky Masters Swim Team. This might take the form of paid lap swims or suggestions of other groups that are operating.

One option that is not constrained by pool restrictions is open water swimming. Several swimmers are very active in the open water swimming community including members of the Western Washington Open Water Facebook Group. While we are not aware of any formal events being organized, that group and others like it have been providing tips and support to swimmers new to swimming in our local bodies of water including lakes and Puget Sound.

Stay safe and healthy and we will hope to see everyone back in the pool as soon as possible. The Husky Masters Swim Team board can reach by emailing

Practices Canceled starting March 16th

The pool facility is closed for at least 2 weeks. We will post to Facebook, the mailing list, and website when we know more. Below is the official announcement from the pool.

Dear Members, Year Round Pool Swimmers, Pool Rental teams, and guests,

After consulting with medical professionals and others who have been in the midst of assessing programs and access to their respective places of business and social gathering venues, we have decided to close VRSTC for a minimum of 14-days.  Please know that this team thoughtfully considered every option to modify our pool access with the hope to keep it open. However, the efforts to both manage any modifications and the outlying unknown risks with this virus led us to believe that it in the best interest for everyone’s health to join in on the efforts to contain this virus by closing the pool.

We recognize that the CDC says chlorine may kill COVID-19 viruses. However due to the proximity between swimmers at any given time and other surface areas that could be infected, we believe closing is still a wise decision.

As an athlete myself, I recognize that this is a critical time to remain active and physical exercise is important to our well being! I thank you for your support and understanding, and hope that we can be open to you soon.

We will provide another update after the initial 14-days is over. Stay safe, wash your hands and don’t touch your face!

Welcome to the Husky Masters Swim Team

The Husky Masters Swim Team is a United States Masters Swimming workout group under the club Puget Sound Masters. We are in the Pacific Northwest LMSC.

Our home base is the View Ridge Swim & Tennis Club pool, located at 5815 NE 77th Street in Seattle, Washington (note that we were formerly located at UW and have since changed locations). We are a group of swimmers which include UW students, faculty, and alumni, and as well as Seattle community members. Neither UW affiliation nor View Ridge Club membership is required to join us; however, current USMS registration is required.

We aim to provide a fun, challenging environment with professionally coached workouts for swimmers of all speeds and abilities.
